Host an Intern
|
The host organization will be managing and working with the intern every day and thus has a critical role in the success of the program.
General roles and responsibilities of the host organization are as follows:
- Develop work plan for intern to list out the tasks and projects the intern will be working on during the internship;
- Dedicate a supervisor to mentor and assist the intern; Provide desk, telephone and computer;
- Conduct an orientation meeting. This is a great opportunity to discuss the policies of the organization, working hours, dress code and a way to begin to meet others in the office;
- Rotate intern among different departments/and or functions to provide them a comprehen sive view of the organization and a chance to learn as much as possible;
- Include the intern on client meetings as appropriate to expose them to all facets of business. This gives the host organization a chance to demonstrate how business is conducted in the professional world; and,
- Communicate to coordinators and advisors, report on intern’s progress and write up an overall evaluation at the conclusion of the program.

Through the internship program, interns have the opportunity to work with and learn from the leaders in Jordan’s tourism industry.
General roles and responsibilities of an intern:
- Be open and willing to learn;
- Be enthusiastic and have a positive attitude;
- Be courteous;
- Do not disclose any confidential information from your host organization. Adhere to non-disclosure and privacy policies of host organization;
- Be punctual and arrive promptly to your host organization for work;
- Follow all the policies and guidance of your host organization;
- Dress for business;
- Maintain weekly diary/log of completed activities and knowledge gained during program; and,
- Develop final project reflecting the knowledge gained during the internship program.
Did You KNOW
JITOA launched the first "Tourism Management Internship Program"a joint pilot project with the Hashemite University (HU) for students of the Queen Rania Institute of Tourism and Heritage (QRITH). The program was initiated to address the human resource needs of the tourism sector.
