The Development and Promotion of Mediterranean Sustainable Adventure Tourism Project (MEDUSA), a project funded by the EU through the ENI CBCMED Program, in cooperation with the GIZ-funded Employment-oriented MSME Promotion Project kicked off today a training activity on Sustainable Tourism Destination Management targeting public sector stakeholders, private sector and sector NGOs, with focus on adventure tourism.

This training aims at:

- Introducing key concepts in sustainable tourism destination management and key parameters essential for successful destination planning.

- Promote cross-agency collaboration and exchange of experiences through multi stakeholder engagement, and encourage dialogue between the various stakeholders, including local service providers, public authorities, tourism professionals and SMEs.

USAID BEST and the Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association JITOA - Jordan signed an agreement to conduct online training on Tourism Customer Experience Management for local tour operators.

USAID BEST will support JITOA to provide this customized training to build the capacity of tour operators as key sector players and ensure they are ready to offer the best customer experience to visitors as soon as they return. This should help operators recover as quickly as possible from the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on tourism.

Over the weekend, JITOA, and in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency - JICA and Petra Development & Tourism Region Authority has organized a tour operators FAM trip to Petra.

The tour started by a visit to the Petra Museum, and gave participants the opportunity to learn more about upcoming developments in the area, and to learn more about the cultural and heritage village currently in the final stages of its inception.

JITOA signed Memorandum of Understanding with Jordan University

Amman, 18/12/2018 – The Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA) signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Jordan University, School of Archaeology and Tourism. The agreement which was signed by Mr. Awni Kawar, Chairman of the Board, and Dr. Nada Al-Rawabdeh, Dean of the School, aims at increased cooperation between the two organizations to enhance the level of tourism education and offer students the opportunity to get better access to the private sector, to the business know-how and provide opportunities for internships and training.

This step is an important part of JITOA strategy to enhance links with Academia, and  provide private sector feedback on needed resources, new trends and developments in the tourism business requirements. On the other hand, the university will benefit from enhanced access to private sector leaders in the various tourism spheres through the JITOA membership basis, and will be able to actively engage in the sector’s activities.

This agreement is part of JITOA’s effort to support its members with relevant HR needs and create more awareness in the inbound tourism sector among undergraduate students.

The Jordanian Inbound Tour Operators Association, and in partnership with the Jordan Tourism Board and the Jordan Society of Travel Agents, organized a combined marketing trip to Poland between November 19 and 16 2018, with the participation of 9 travel agenda and 2 hotel chains. Poland is considered among the top outbound markets in Eastern Europe with around 14 million travelers per year, and $8.7 billion in spending. Ryan Air has opened up two new routes between Amman and 2 Polish cities (Warsaw and Krakow) as of October 2018.

The activity in Poland covered three event:

• Event 1 – A B2B Event in Krakow / November 20, 2018

• Event 2 – Participation in Meet the Bidder Conference in Warsaw / November 21, 2018

• Event 3 – Participation at TT Warsaw Tourism Exhibition / November 22-24, 2018

World Tourism Day-Jordan 2018

In its effort to create more awareness among the sector and its partners on tourism importance, JITOA organized a cultural tour-guided walk from Al-Weibdeh area to Abdali Boulevard on October 13th.

The walk which was completed by 298 walkers was planned in celebration of  World Tourism Day, which falls every year on September 27, with the aim to bring everyone together, and engage both industry and non-industry partners to highlight how important tourism is for the communities that it touches, and ultimately for Jordan at large.  

This year, the theme for the World Tourism Day is “Digital Transformation”. Therefore JITOA worked on several levels to showcase the “Digital Transformation” aspect within the sector and how the various components are linked together. video

• Joint trip with the Jordan Businessmen Association to Istanbul, as part of the Jordanian Turkish Business Form. The aim for the tourism sector presence was to build ties and explore means of collaborations with Turkish counterparts on promoting inbound traffic to Jordan.
